CAMDEN REMEMBERS John Tyler MITCHELL (Lieutenant)

Birth: 30 November 1888 Narellan, NSW, Australia Death: 1 September 1918 (age 29) France, Killed in Action Cemetery or Memorial: Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France Father: John MITCHELL Mother: Sarah John was educated at Maitland High School and Sydney University passing his Matriculation Exam. He also passed the Bankers Institute Exam. He gave his occupation as Bank Teller when he enlisted 10 October 1915, and his next of kin his father John Mitchell of High Street, Waratah, Newcastle. John served in the 41st Battalion A.I.F. He departed Brisbane on the 'Boonah' 21 October 1916 and arrived France via England December 1917. He was wounded in action in France 26 May 1918. John's brother (Driver 28135) Keith McNab Mitchell (b. Narellan 1893) served in the 4th Divisional Ammunition Column A.I.F. in France and returned to Australia in 1919. Lieutenant John Tyler MITCHELL was killed in action near Clery on the Somme France 1st September 1918 age29.
